Success comes through personal effort!
Welcome to our new class page!
We hope that you have had a lovely holiday. We certainly have a lot of exciting learning planned for the coming term! Keep checking this page, the news items and the gallery for updates. Scroll to the bottom of the page for key information.
Ready to Learn. Working Hard. Making Progress.
English: We will be working on the different sentence types at the beginning of this half term. We will be looking at statements, questions, commands and exclamations. We will be applying these different sentence types in our writing using the correct punctuation.
Our new T4W unit will be starting in the 3rd week back. Watch this space for more information.
In our spelling lessons, we will be continue to look at each of the long vowels and the different ways that these can be written when spelling. Now we are in Year 2, we need to start making the right choice so that we spell words correctly. We will also be learning more about the rules for adding the suffixes -ed, -ing, -er and -est and we will learn about homophones and contractions.
We will be given plenty of opportunities to practise the correct formation, size and orientation of our cursive letters.
Maths: We will continue to look at addition and subtraction calculations and explore different strategies. We will be looking at using our number bonds and place value knowledge to help us add and subtract effiiciently on a numbered number line and then on an empty number line. We will continue to practise counting on and back in 2's, 5's and 10's and use this knowledge to help us start to learn our 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
Science: Our unit in science will focus on the uses of everyday materials. We will be thinking about different materials and their properties. We will use this knowledge to consider the suitability of a range of materials for different purposes and will put our ideas to the test when we perform some scientific investigations.
History: In history we will be comparing means of communication at the time of World War 1 with today. We will learn about how people's behaviour and daily lives were different at this time and how important animals were in the war effort.
Art: Our art unit is all about colour. We will start the year by learning about the primary and secondary colours. We will then explore creating tints and shades of different colours.
PE: Our Tuesday PE lesson will focus on underarm throwing, rolling, kicking and punting a ball with increasing accuracy. We will practise these skills discretely and then apply them in games situations.
In our Friday lesson, we will be creating our own dance with the theme of Africa.
RE: In RE, we will be learning about objects that might be found in a Jewish home and how these link to the Jewish way of life. We will learn about the festivals of Shabbat and Chanukah.
