Class 6S 2019 - 2020
Welcome to 6S!
We are looking forward to a great final year at Flixton Primary School.
Library is on Tuesday.
PE is Monday (outdoor) and Friday (indoor).
Reading Racetrack books due in every Friday.
We have been thinking about our school rules and
how we can demonstrate them.
Last week, 6S were lucky enough to have a visit from the charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. They talked to us about what the charity does and being deaf aware.
We were also introduced to some of the amazing hearing dogs - Abney and Noodle. Noodle is in training to work with a deaf person in a school.
The Manchester Blitz
In history, we are learning about the impact of the Blitz in Manchester.
We used different sources and considered our own historical questions.
In art we have been learning about movement and exploring different ways movement can be captured in art. We have been looking at the work of Auguste Rodin and we have made sculptures inspired by his work.
There are more photos in the gallery below.
Watch this space for the finished sculptures!
Christmas Chocolate Logs
We have had a great afternoon making our Christmas chocolate logs. They are all packaged up and ready to go. Hope you enjoy them...ho, ho, ho!

We enjoyed our final lacrosse session before Christmas. We played some team building games, practised our skills and played some mini games.
We've made lots of progress with our skills.
In DT this term, we have been learning about different mechanisms in fairground rides. Just look at the effort and determination that went into creating our final models. Great resilience and problem solving skills 6S - well done!

We are lucky to be working with a lacrosse coach in PE this half term. We are developing the skills we learnt in year 5.
See more photos in the gallery below.
History - World War II
This week we have been learning about life on the Home Front during WWII and how everyone worked together to cope with the German threat.
We researched different areas and then taught each other.
Maths - This week we have been analysing and investigating with measurements.
History - What evacuation was really like.
We looked at photographs and used inference to offer ideas of what was actually happening. Then, we conducted a role play where the children were given evacuee identities and spoke to each other about their experiences:
To finish the activity, they were asked to order themselves with the graded information that they had as to which evacuee had a horrible, difficult evacuation to those who had a wonderful, happy experience:
In PE this half term we are working with Total Gymnastics to develop our skills. More photos in the gallery below.
In maths we have been practising our times tables.
We know how important they are in lots of areas of maths!
Our history topic this half term is all about World War II. This week we have been finding out why Britain went to war in 1939. The children researched reasons for and against appeasement and held their own debate. More photos in the gallery below.
