Welcome to Reception

A very warm welcome to all of the new reception children and parents. We are really looking forward to you starting school in September. In the meantime, we hope this page will give you lots of information and help you to find out all that you need before you start school.

If you need any further information, please email the reception address which is:

Book Bags

Book bags are essential for school. Please make sure your child has one with their name clearly labelled on the back. It allows the children to bring home reading books, letters and things they have made. Please ensure you check and empty them daily.

Uniform

Please see the main uniform page for more details. You will find this under 'Information for Parents' and then 'Uniform.'

http://www.flixtonprimaryschool.org.uk/page/uniform/43144

Please ensure all items (including shoes and pumps) are clearly named.

No jewelry please.

Shoes with velcro are advisable as the children can independently change their own footwear.

You can order school jumpers and cardigans from the school office. You should have had an order form in your new starter pack. We will have some of these avaliable at the class visits for you to have a look at. Book bags will also be avaliable.

Spare clothes

It's a good idea to have a spare set of uniform, if possible, to leave in a named bag on your child's peg. We are often outside, and the children love the mud kitchen and the water, so a spare set in school will help. If your child needs to get changed during the day, we will send the bag home to have it re-stocked. A pair of named wellies would also be helpful to leave in school.

PE Kit

White t-shirt

Navy shorts

Black pumps

Long hair needs to be tied back for PE lessons.

We will let you know when the children will start to get ready for PE. You may want to wait to buy PE kit as children grow fast! This is usually around October half term.

School lunches

The children can have a hot school dinner or bring a packed lunch from home. We ask that you choose either school meals or packed lunches and stick to this, as this helps the kitchen. If you wish to swap, please give the school office notice. All children in EYFS and KS1 are entitled to a free school meal so there are no payments needed.

When the children first stay for lunch, the reception staff and the lunchtime staff will support them in the hall. It's tricky knowing which food you'd like when you are 4, and we appreciate that. It is a good idea for you to have a menu at home. You can then talk to your child about what they might eat that day so that they have an idea. The menu works on a 4 week rolling cycle. As soon as we have the menu for September we will add it to the page and let you know which week we are up to. We are a nut free school so no nut products in lunchboxes please.

If you are at all concerned about what your child is eating, please get in touch with us and we will be able to help. We might suggest that you send a menu in with their food choices circled, so we can help them choose. It is a good idea to have a practise with your child using a knife and fork . We would encourage you to talk them about eating their main meal first and then their pudding. Please see the sample menu in the 'News' items below.

Snacks and drinks.

In the reception provision the children will have access to fresh fruit and milk all day. They may also have a bottle of water from home as an extra drink. Bottles with sip lids are preferred. If children have to take off the lid to have a drink, this can be time consuming and they often spill. Once your child turns 5, you will need to pay for milk. The office will send you a letter about this nearer the time.
