Religious Education

Our aims in teaching RE at Flixton Primary School are to encourage self-awareness, respect for others, open mindedness, appreciation and wonder. As we live in a multi cultural society and with the ever increasing travel opportunities it is important that children have an understanding of the way people live their lives, for example their clothes, food, belief systems, holidays, festivals and customs, This will help children know and understand more about people from cultures other than their own, and help them to be more tolerant of others.

We believe that teaching by using a unifying approach of a particular religion and belief system gives children continuity of learning, preferring to make sense of one whole religion through unifying themes, which are coherent to the children, rather than selecting specific topics within each faith.

Learning from religion makes RE more meaningful by relating to children’s own experiences. When delivering RE, links are constantly being made between previous and future learning.
