Autumn Term

Autumn Term:

Please have a look at our Autumn term newsletter in the 'Files to Download' on our class homepage.

This year, we will be having a spelling test each week. We will be working through the words in the Y5/6 Spelling list. The list is available in the 'files to download' section of our homepage. (The words are numbered in the order they will be sent home.) We will also put each list in turn onto Spelling Shed for the children to practise.

17/12/19 - Christmas Food technology

We had a fantastic morning working with Mrs Tatham to decorate cupcakes. The children had to concentrate really hard in order to have a go at some of the really tricky things that were asked of them. The finished products were amazing... Success clearly does come through personal effort!

We hope you enjoy these seasonal treats at home. There are more pictures in the gallery at the bottom of our main class page.

29/11/19 - Science

We worked collaboratively on a 'treasure hunt' in science to revise what we aready know about our new science topic - 'states of matter'. There are more photos in the gallery on our main class page.

25/11/19 - Road Safety

We are focussing on road safety in assemblies this week. This is particularly important for our older children as they begin to do a few journeys unaccompanied by adults.

12/11/19 - Pobble Day

We had a great time on our Pobble Day and produced some amazing writing. Remember, you can read our writing on Pobble.com! More photos in our gallery on the main page.

7/11/19 - 'Fortune Tellers' in maths

We made 'fortune tellers' to help us to practise our tables. There are more on our main class page to do at home if you wish!

5/11/19 - Hot-seating in English

We used 'hot-seating to think about the main characters in our story - The Demon Headmaster. We wondered how they were feeling and what they might dn next. More photos in our gallery!

1/11/19 - Tessellation

We applied lots of learning (angles, 2D shapes, bar models) to tessellate shapes and see what we could work out about the angles from our tessellations. (More photos in our gallery!)

1/11/19 - Book club

We have started a 'book club' this week. As your child to tell you about it! (More pictures in our gallery).

28/10/19 - Science

We learnt about how the Earth's rotation on its axis causes day and night and the apparent movement of the sun across the sky. We used this movement to make our own sundial.

14/10/19 - Maths

We used Cuisenaire rods to explore additive and multiplicative relationships. We drew bar models to help us describe the relationships. There are more photos in our gallery on the class homepage.

11/10/19 - Maths

We have been exploring patterns in numbers using visual images (linked to our earlier work... see details below). Today we focused on factors. The game helped the children to become more familiar with factors of different numbers but also encouraged them to think about prime numbers and numbers with more factors than others in order to win the game! The are more photos in the gallery on our main class page.

07/10/19 - Science

We looked at different sources of evidence to disprove an old hypothesis that the Earth is flat. There was some great discussion and thinking going on! More pictures in our gallery!

30/09/17 - DT

We have learnt a new stitch for our DT project on puppets - blanket stitch. The children showed great resilience and produced some great work. There are some good tutorials online if your child wants to practise at home. We also learnt backstitch last year and running stitch the year before, all of which will come in handy when we come to make our puppets!

27/09/19 - History - Why did the Anglo-Saxons come to Britain?

Historians aren't sure, but we founds lots of clues around the classroom as to likely reasons why the Anglo-Saxons came to Britain. Great team work! See more pictures in our gallery on our class home page.

20/09/19 - Maths - Finding Patterns in Numbers

We explored pictoral representations of numbers in maths today. We found lots of patterns to do with factors, prime numbers and square numbers! There are more photos in our gallery.
