February

We have now learned all the Phase 5 sounds.

We are now practising reading real and nonsense words containing these sounds.

We know it is a nonsense word because there is an alien beside it. 

"When you see an alien face, ther's no need to rush and race" This reminds us to take our time and just saythe sounds then say the word.

This is to get us ready for the Phonics screening check in June.

We are also practising drawing the sound buttons onto the words to help us to sound them out to read them.

We have started to teach the phase 5 sounds this week. These are alternative spellings of the sounds that they learnt in phase 3. The sounds this week are as follows.....

ay (as in pay)     ea (as in peach)      ie (as in pie)     au (as in Paul)

We will also learn to read and write the words Mr, Mrs, some, come.

Please contiue to practise reading and writing these sounds and words at home.

 

Each week in phonics, we recap all the sounds we have learnt so far. Then we focus on particular sounds. We always practise reading these sounds in real and nonsense (alien) words. We also always practise writing the sounds in words and then using these words in sentences correctly.
